remedial course in French  

This programme is for non-native speakers who are enrolled in one of the five faculties of the University of Neuchâtel (Arts, Science, Law, Economics or Theology) or who are participating in an exchange programme or who are following special courses. This is a remedial course to help these students get the most out of their stay at the University.
These lessons are free of charge and are taught by the staff of IFLC at times that fit in with the Faculties' timetables.

  1. Level A1 (2 hours a week)
    This beginners' course is aimed at students who only have a basic knowledge of French. They will particularly acquire skills in vocabulary and grammar (verbal conjugation, agreement between nouns and ajectives, etc.), as well as develop oral expression in everyday simple situations.
    Credits : students who attend class regulary and pass the written evaluation test at the end of the semester will get 2 credits.
  2. Level A2 - B1 Course (2 hours a week)
    This course is aimed at students who already have a good knowledge of French. It reinforces their knowledge of grammar and vocabulary.
    Credits: Regular attendance as well as passing the end of term test (a 1 hour written examination) gives 2 credits.
  3. Level B2 - C1 Course (2 hours a week)
    This course is aimed at students who already know French but who, through the study of original texts, wish to acquire a better level of expression and a mastery of different situations in oral and written communication.
    Credits: Regular attendance as well as passing the end of term test (a 1 hour written examination) gives 2 credits.
  4. Multimedia Laboratory (1 hour a week)
    This course gives participants of different mother-tongues and of different levels the opportunity to improve their pronunciation and to do exercises in grammar, spelling, reading, listening comprehension etc. according to their needs.
    Credits: Regular and active participation (continuous assessment) during the term gives 1 credit.
  5. Grammar exercises at the multimedia laboratory (1 hour a week)
    This course is a practical application of the theory found in Language Courses A2 - B1 and B2 - C1 as well as offering exercises to students at level A1 and C2.
    Credits: Regular attendance as well as passing the end of term test (a 1 hour written examination) gives 1 credit.
  6. German - French translation exercises (2 hours a week)
    This course is aimed at German native speakers who wish to improve their knowledge of French through the translation of literary and newspaper articles. Importance is given to a contrastive analysis of German and French (especially from a lexical and syntactic point of view).
    Credits: Regular attendance and homework as well as passing the end of term test  gives 4 credits.
  7. English - French translation exercises (2 hours a week)
    This course is aimed at English native speakers or those who have an excellent knowledge of English and who wish to improve their knowledge of French through the translation of literary and newspaper articles.
    Credits: Regular attendance and homework, as well as passing the end of term test gives 4 credits.
