research interest

My research interests within the field of animal behaviour
concern the cognition and social interactions of primates.

In my PhD thesis, I plan to investigate social learning and
culture among
vervet monkeys (Chlorocebus aethiops) in
South Africa
. During these last years, many experiments
in the laboratory have shown
that monkeys learn in a social
context, observing other individuals.
Social learning is the
basis of cultural traits. What are missing at this
stage are
detailed and long-term studies in this field. In my project,
I want to do experiments on the social learning and culture
on six different groups of wild vervets.
This will be the first
study in the field allowing for quantitative analyses in this
subject. With this aim of looking at social learning and how
it is spreading in groups and populations, I propose different
experiments
involving food.
