Differences of habitats and behaviors between lactating females
and non-lactating females in ibex groups (Capra ibex ibex)
In my master thesis, I compare time budgets of lactating females with
those of non-breeding females in a Swiss Alpine ibex (Capra ibex ibex)
population. I test whether lactating females spent as much time as
others feeding, moving, resting, and performing other social behaviors.
I also study the vigilance behavior of the females. A higher vigilance
rate can be an antipredation behavior exhibited by lactating females
to protect their young.
Daily observations of these behaviors were conducted during summer
2008. My field work took place near of the Cap au Moine (2352m.),
Diablerets mountains, canton de Vaud, Switzerland.
