My task is to determine the different types of alarm calls produced by captive Capuchin monkeys (Cebus apella) in response to model predators. In order to provoke these calls, I show them different predator types (leopard, eagle and snake) and also a control model corresponding to the predator (deer, parrot and lizard) that is intended as an inoffensive animal that is less likely to provoke a response. Throughout the experimentation, I record both their behavioural and vocal responses.
This study takes place in Living Links Centre at the Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland. Living Links is a research centre that is interested in the human evolution by investigating our similarities with great apes and monkeys.
